LEP Funding supports students with New Technology Tower

£2m European funding pot for Enterprise M3 businesses

Pictured: Mark Lebus, Chair of Enterprise M3's Rural Action Group opening the ERDF specification launch and partnering event on Thursday 11 October.  Enterprise M3 LEP is offering £2m of European investment to businesses in its area that are developing cutting-edge technology.  The funding is part of a £6.2m European Regional Development Fund allocated to the LEP. Thirty per cent of the funding will go to low carbon initiatives. LEP chair Dave Axam said: "This might include production, accessibility and adoption of renewable energy; promoting energy efficiency; developing research and innovation low carbon technologies, and supporting their adoption.   As well as low carbon businesses, those enterprises who can benefit include those in the fields of Internationalisation, Access to Finance, Digital Growth, 5G, Life Sciences and Advanced engineering. ERDF can cover up to 50 per cent of expenditure of projects delivered up until 31 December 2023. Enterprise M3 LEP to offer Brexit guidance and support

Businesses, especially SMEs, in the Enterprise M3 area can look forward to some impartial advice as we approach Brexit.  Enterprise M3 LEP is working with a number of partners, including the Chambers of Commerce in Surrey and Hampshire, the Federation of Small Business, County Councils and the Department for International Trade (DIT) to support businesses to prepare for Brexit. We will be rolling out a programme of advice and practical guidance in the coming weeks and months. The Enterprise M3 region has a strong foundation and culture of international trade. Innovation and ideas in new strategy will realise Enterprise M3’s economic ambitions

A vision to transform Enterprise M3 into a globally competitive region, unique for its knowledge, digital and design-based economy, has been outlined with practical steps. ‘A Strategic Economic Plan for the Enterprise M3 area 2018 2030' sets out how an already-established national asset and economic powerhouse, can grow its economy by four per cent each year and add £39bn of GVA to the UK economy. AI’s trade impact; Dr Mike Short advises UK

Enterprise M3 LEP board member Dr Mike Short CBE has presented evidence in Parliament on how Artificial Intelligence impacts trade. AI, digital and data is one of the four Grand Challenges set out by government in its Industrial Strategy and also one of the core strengths of the Enterprise M3 area. Dr Short, Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for International Trade, and Visiting Professor - University of Surrey, spoke at the All Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence in the House of Lords. The topic was trade and speakers considered how AI changes trade internationally and within national borders; how industries can shift their business models to adapt AI; how to shift ecommerce to ai-commerce; what changes have to be made to UK taxing frameworks. Dr Short, a former Enterprise M3 LEP chairman, joined the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Board in 2014 and has played a key role in driving the LEP's digital agenda. Multi-million pound 'Enterprise M3 Clean Growth Enterprise Fund' announced
