EM3 LEP supports clean growth at Business South Annual Conference

Business perspectives on sustainability, green technology, innovation, local regeneration, and education, were on the agenda at the Business South Annual Conference 2019.
Through inspirational presentations on current industry matters, and compelling panel discussion, the conference brought together companies in the Central South of England to inspire new ideas, share knowledge, and encourage collaborative working to achieve future growth for businesses and the region.
Enterprise M3 Assistant Director, Rob Dunford, attended the conference at Hilton at the Ageas Bowl near Southampton, on 1 October. The event's themes are at the core of EM3's work including the Local Industrial Strategy and the South2East Energy Strategy.
Speakers included Aldred Drummond, Chief Executive of Fawley Waterside, who presented the plans to create a vibrant, sustainable new community at Fawley Waterside, in Hampshire.
Joy Aloor, Head of Energy Business Advisory at Siemens, and Becky Coffin, Head of Sustainability at Heathrow Airport, were also among the industry experts.
On the day Rob tweeted:
Very sobering listening to Joy Aloor addressing @BizSouth conference about climate change – ‘it’s not ok’ to keep going as we are #responsiblebusiness must take action.
Rob added:
Great to see @Becky_Coffin mention the excellent
@StoryFutures programme which has designed a project to encourage behaviour change in recycling coffee cups @HeathrowAirport.
Story Futures collaborated with Heathrow & Costa Coffee to launch an immersive experience to encourage Heathrow T5 visitors to recycle many more paper coffee cups. A character called Cupsy lives on screens above new bins and uses facial and object recognition technologies to pick up on visitors’ coffee cups and their day to day reactions.
Rob also attended the pre-conference dinner on September 30 where EM3 Chairman Dave spoke on clean growth in the context of an evening “discussing the big picture and local opportunities for clean growth & state of the art logistics”, Rob said.
